What do you get a bass-crazy guy for Christmas?
Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 4:47PM For as long as I can remember my Christmas list has always been full of things like weights, hooks, crankbaits, rods, reels and bags of plastics. When I was younger, there was still a part of me that let Legos and G.I. Joes sneak onto the list but that faded over time and the only toys I want are bulk spools of fluorocarbon and $400 pieces of graphite and cork. It's reached a point where 90-100% of my Christmas list is fishing-related...and there were a few presents under my tree this year that are worth a look if you think about the green fish every 5 seconds like I do...
Bass-Patterned Fleece Throw Blanket - It's warm, it's big, and it's got a picture of a hog jumping out of
the water...a must have when it's cold and there's nothing to do but sit on the couch and catch up on old tournaments and my favorite weekly fishing shows. This blanket has been a very welcome addition to the couch down in my shop.
Bass-Patterned Fleece Pants - The most comfortable pair of
pants I've ever owned...hands down! Since Christmas, the only time I've really taken them off is when I had to go to work...and one other time when I had to go out in public, but that doesn't mean I didn't think about wearing them to the store.
Hand-held Digital Scale - Ok...now on to the stuff I can actually use on the water. When you're fishing for fun, it's nice to know if that last fish was a personal best or just another wall-hanger. When you're fishing a tournament and have 2 identical fish in the live well but you can only keep one, you need something like this to help you make the decision that puts a few more ounces on the scale. Balance beams and a well-trained eye can help you in a tournament, but a digital scale does it all!
Gift Cards - Even if I ask for specific rods, reels, or pieces of tackle, my family knows that I'll change my mind in 5 minutes...and being able to wait for the day that pointers get knocked down to $10 can save a serious angler $50 - $100 per year depending on how depleted your jerkbait box has become. After all, the only person picky enough to shop for me is me!
The Strike - This game has quickly become my new source of sanity with all this snow on the ground. The lake maps could be a little bit more realistic, the conditions never change, and the game could be a little bit longer, but that still doesn't make this game anything less than incredible. If you own an XBox or a Wii and you know how to use a spinning reel, you'll be very, very happy when you plug this in and sit down to play.
